Conquering Goals like a Champ

I just competed in my 3rd USPA Powerlifting Competition in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I've been training for this competition since January 2017, executing a four day per week training plan with hopes of breaking my Personal Record in the Squat, Bench, and Deadlift event. My ultimate goal was to reach a total lift amount of 1,190 lbs and qualify for the 2017 USPA National Competition in Las Vegas, NV.
My training plan consisted of a very intense 12 week program. However, my motivation to workout four times a week started to decline halfway through the program. My goal of qualifying for Nationals was becoming a low priority, and noticed my performance dropping in the gym. Two weeks before my competition, I failed to hit my goal weight of 400 lbs in Squats. This failure left me discouraged and doubting my ability to perform well during this competition. However, my trainer encouraged me to keep training, stay focused, and believe I can do it.
On the day of my competition, I exceeded all my expectations and surprised myself with my squat performance. I ended up lifting 413 lbs, beating my Personal Record by 33 lbs and capturing a total lift amount of 1200 lbs.
Yes, my friends.... I'm going to Nationals!!!
My Advice
If you have a goal you want to accomplish; write it down, develop a plan, and execute. You can achieve anything with hard work and dedication. If your goal is bigger than yourself, mostly likely it will come with its challenges, obstacles, and distractions. All these negative hindrances are put in place to impede the mission. But, you have to keep pushing forward when it starts to get tough. As Zig Ziglar stated, "What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals." You must always believe in yourself and your ability to succeed and know, no one can stop you but you.
Have a great day!
