This year was pretty unexpected with the COVID-19 virus affecting people, jobs being lost, and closing down stores. I have learned a lot about myself, my family, and work. Below are five things I’ve learned during this pandemic yet interesting year.

1. Learned how to work from home

In March 2020, my job requested many people to work at home due to the COVID-19 virus out in public. At first, I didn’t think that was a good idea, and felt we couldn’t get many of our assignments completed. I was wrong. I had access to my work computer and used my cell phone to talk to the employees and contractors about our tasks and schedule of the fix. Everything I used to do at work was completed at home, except seeing workers each day. We talked about work and personal actions, and accomplished quite a bit of work. I learned the location isn’t the most crucial thing for every job, as long as you got everything you need, you can complete every task.

2. Spent time with my family

I’ve been home with work since March 2020, and it’s hard to believe it’s almost Jan 2021! I’ve spent a lot of time with my girlfriend and the kids for over the last 9 months. It’s been fun and this has given me the opportunity to learn more about them and have taken advantage of taking day trips around the state. I’ve heard many messages about the virus and for us not to be out of the house, but sorry to say, we did. We went on different trips to more significant and smaller cities to drive and explore them. We didn’t go to many stores. We just hung around and talked about our favorite things to do and how we wish the virus was gone. It’s been a great time, and I feel more closer to everyone now.

3. Listen to God

This year, I’ve read more books and devotionals about God and became closer to him. I always prayed for the best outcome for my family and myself and continue to follow HIS ways. God is good. No, God is great, and I’m so close to him now. Whatever he tells me to do, I do it. I’ve learned a lot by talking to my girlfriend and preparing for our future wedding. I used to be scared of this virus, and now, I believe God will protect me and ensure I’m doing great all the time. John 15:12-13 says, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” I love HIM, my family and friends!

4. Money can’t buy health

I used to think that money can make you healthy as long as you have it, but it can’t. I’ve heard of many people getting sick and passing away this year and had tons of money. Money doesn’t protect you from viruses. Only God and yourself can. I’ve been pretty healthy, and it’s because I follow what God tells me to do. I used to believe in money and my beliefs have changed and turned to God. I truly believe family is first, money is next, and God is above them all.

5. Never give up

I thought I would be unsuccessful in my job being at home this year, but on the contrary, it’s been better. I simply adjusted my life and made everything work. My work is going well, and I’m much closer to my family. I even bought a house to flip, even though it took me four months to close. You should never give up. If you come across something difficult or challenging, first pray about it, find someone to hear you out and be open to suggestions. You can use your best friends, parents, or God. You will get some good advice, and it will encourage you to do better.
